Have Your Say - New Fire Service

Proposals to modernise the service have been published today (16 November 2011) and include better flood support, increased response targets and developing life-saving skills for firefighters.

Staff and partners have already been consulted and now a series of meetings are being held to get feedback from residents. They are:

Cirencester Fire Station 30th November at 6pm

Tewkesbury Fire Station 2nd December at 6pm

Coleford Fire Station 5th December at 6pm

Stroud Fire Station 8th December at 6pm

Gloucester Fire Station 14th December at 6pm

Cheltenham Library 15th December at 6pm

Chief Fire Officer, Jon Hall said: “Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service provides one of the most cost effective services in the country. We must not however rest on this.  In these times of austerity, we are seeking to strengthen the service we deliver to communities through a range of innovative and ground-breaking proposals.  We need people’s understanding and support as we take the service forward and look forward to hearing all opinions.”

As well as meetings, consultation documents have been sent out to all local parish councils and the plans are available to view online at www.glosfire.gov.uk/irmp where you can also watch videos about the proposals and complete a questionnaire.

Carers Rights Day

Carers Rights Day is on 2nd December 2011. Being a carer comes with huge responsibilities - people often give up their jobs and many enjoyable aspects of their lives to look after a friend, relative or neighbour. It's an ultimate act of human kindness.

To mark the event, a “truthful, funny and moving” play exploring the relationship between a middle-aged women and her elderly mother is being held at Ribston Hall School
on Friday 2
nd December.

Latest Police Update

In the 13 days since 21st December domestic burglary would appear to be the most prolific crime in Gloucester with a total of 29 throughout the area. Barton and Tredworth 10, Linden and Podsmead 7, and Kingsholm and Wotton 4, have been the main areas affected with the other 8 crimes widely spread around. Business, garage and shed breaks accounted for 17 crimes, there were 21 car crimes, and 1 robbery which occurred in Gloucester Park. These are not high figures but the domestic burglary level is slightly up on the average and should give enough concern to ensure that we remain vigilant and report anything suspicious immediately to the police.

A new planning strategy could see the construction of over 3,000 new homes near Innsworth with a further 750 near the Golden Valley roundabout.  The plans are highlighted in a consultation exercise currently underway.  Obviously, such a scale of development would have an impact on residents in Longlevens.

You can download the plans or find out more information at www.gct-jcs.org on the public consultation page. Responses can be made online or by email to info@gct-jcs.org. Download the plans here [PDF]
